Marketing with Facebook's New Slideshow Feature

DIY Sprocket Solutions

For the New Year this past year, Facebook had a “Year in Review” feature that allowed users to create short films out of the top moments they’d shared throughout the year. This feature was a huge success and wildly popular among Facebook users. As a way to encourage people to share more videos, Facebook introduced a new slideshow feature that takes your photos and videos on Facebook and turns them into a short movie. These short clips can be customized with different themes and with music. The idea was created to help Facebook take a step towards turning the social network into a video-first destination. The result actually has some great potential and benefits to social media marketers.

So, how can you use Facebook’s new slideshow feature to market on the social media platform?

Well, Facebook has now made it incredibly easy for anyone using the social network to create original content. You now have a pre made format to insert whatever images or video you like. The feature is incredibly user friendly and it makes it easy for anyone to create a short video clip for their brand.

You can use these slideshow videos as ads for your business. If your business is construction or repair, maybe you want to do a photo gallery or a display of before and afters. If you own a restaurant or bar, you can create a video featuring the week’s specials, band info, and menu items. The possibilities are endless. Facebook has created a simple template that is a complete blank canvas for every different type of business. As someone marketing your business, you should brainstorm several different uses of the slideshow tool.

Do you want to feature past projects or specials? Can you create a video featuring an upcoming event or promotion? Are you raising money for a cause that you’d like to highlight on your Facebook page? Think outside the box. The key is finding photos and graphics that are easy to identify and read. You should also consider transition length between each photo if there is text involved. Consider how long it will take a viewer to read the text on each photo. Think of it as an ad on the TV. How long would you need to read the information? Make sure you’re giving that same time to your viewers.

The best part about this new Facebook feature is that it costs you nothing. This is just another example of an extremely valuable social media tool that is absolutely free. You owe it to yourself and the business you represent to familiarize yourself with the free resources that are available to you.

Who has had experience using the new Facebook slideshow feature for their business? What sort of video clips or ‘ads’ have you created? What kind of feedback have you received so far? Do you have any ideas of how people can use this tool to better market their businesses on Facebook? What are your thoughts of it so far? Comment below!
